Enabling fair opportunities and security for drivers and merchants

Box Delivery operates in various cities across Brazil, with a brand promise to provide ultra-fast deliveries at the best rates. It works with independent drivers registered through its app.

The delivery intermediary service aims to offer fair and secure opportunities for delivery drivers and retailers through its app. However, combating fraud is a constant challenge.

That’s why they chose to use SHIELD Device Intelligence. With SHIELD’s technology detecting fake accounts and fraud in real time, they stayed ahead of risks, building a trusted ecosystem free of fraud.

How fraudsters threaten the delivery industry

The creation of fake accounts and the use of GPS spoofing and autoclickers are pervasive fraudulent activities within the delivery industry. The primary objective of fraudsters is to generate higher payments for themselves, or evade bans and suspensions due to malicious actions.

Fraudsters employ various tools, such as app cloners and emulators, to generate thousands of fake accounts from a single device. This enables them, for instance, to exploit incentive programs, leading to financial losses for the platform.

GPS spoofers are frequently employed to deceive delivery platforms. This may result in the falsification of locations and the monopolization of orders in high-demand areas, leading to extended wait times and dissatisfied customers.

In addition, fraudsters in delivery services often utilize autoclickers. The purpose is to use this tool to accept a large volume of orders, enabling a single delivery driver to manage them all. This practice introduces delays and reduces opportunities for other delivery partners.

Leveraging SHIELD Device Intelligence to stop fraud and unfairness

Box Delivery partnered with SHIELD and its AI-powered technology to handle fraud attacks efficiently. Device Intelligence identifies devices, accounts, and users interacting with the app, and it also reveals which malicious techniques and tools may be used to carry out fraudulent activities.

The most powerful feature is SHIELD Device ID, the global standard for device identification, which supports them in identifying the fraudulent devices used to create fake accounts. “By linking fake accounts created from the same physical device, SHIELD ID helps Box Delivery to detect every risky device with unparalleled accuracy”, commented Justin Lie, CEO at SHIELD. With this feature, Box Delivery is able to detect and eliminate fake accounts created by dishonest drivers to abuse platform incentives.

The team further harnessed the SHIELD Risk Intelligence, which exposes devices running malicious tools and techniques, such as app cloners, GPS spoofers, and autoclickers. The solution also helps them to be aware of the exact moment users engaged in fraudulent activities. With precise knowledge of when fraudulent activities occur, Box can promptly intervene and take corrective actions, minimizing vulnerabilities and reducing potential damage.

The use of SHIELD Device Intelligence and its features make it possible for Box Delivery to identify genuine and trustworthy users.

“Our partnership with SHIELD has been crucial for us. By proactively addressing fraudulent activities, we can confidently build and maintain trust, ensuring a secure platform”, commented Denis Lemela, co-founder of Box Delivery.
